Déglutix Shield

• The presence of the shield prevents the tongue from sticking out between the lips,there is no more contact between the lips-tongue which is the initiator of primary swallowing (dysfunctional).
• Ventilators placed in the lip extensions make it impossible for the lips to produce a sealed joint.
• To swallow, the child must clench his teeth and place his tongue against his palate. Then his secondary swallowing will be correct.
• This new type of swallowing takes place SUBCONSCIOUSLY. Learning takes place SPONTANEOUSLY.

• The appliance must be worn for 30 minutes during the day.
• The child ought not to think about his appliance. He should wear it while carrying out another activity which absorbs his concentration: reading, television or a video game.
• Wearing it at night and the exercises are not essential. - It is up to the practitioner to assess how valuable this is, depending on the severity of the dysfunction.
• The Déglutix can be combined with other appliances: functional mouthguard, orthodontic shield, removable or fixed appliance.
• It should be cleaned in cold water with a toothbrush and toothpaste, before and after use. The recommendation is to soak it for 1 hour in mouthwash.
• Never boil the shield.

• Not suitable for children under 36 months.
